Traditional Chinese V.S. Simplified Chinese
Why Favoring Traditional Chinese

There are two major Chinese writing systems, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese.

¡@¡@Traditional Chinese characters have gone through more than 4000 years evolvement, while simplified Chinese was created 40 years ago.  Simplified Chinese characters are officially simplified by the government of the People¡¦s Republic of China (P.R.C.).  After winning the civil war in China, the communist government began to throw out a series of reformation.  They thought that traditional Chinese contains too much old Chinese spirit which might hinder China¡¦s industrialization and the ¡§Great Culture Revolution¡¨, and was too difficult to learn.  Therefore, the communist decided to simplify some traditional Chinese characters, by which it derived the "Simplified Chinese."   The ten year ¡§Great Culture Revolution¡¨, which is now generally acknowledged as one of the biggest cultural disaster in human history, was begun in the 70¡¦s.  Many Chinese historical heritages were destroyed; many ancient Chinese books and arts were burnt.  There was no regular education in China for ten years.  Ancient Chinese spirit suffered. Even the current Chinese officials admitted that the ¡§Great Culture Revolution¡¨ was a setback and felt regret for the 10-year disaster.

¡@¡@Luckily, Republic of China in Taiwan and Hong Kong was not in the reign of P.R.C. during the Great Culture Revolution, so that Chinese culture and traditional Chinese characters can be conserved in those two regions. Nowadays, the traditional Chinese characters are officially used in writing in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and abroad Chinese community.  Young folks in mainland China still can read traditional Chinese but some of them may have difficulty in writing.  However, for the art, spirit, and wisdom contained in traditional Chinese characters, a lot of writers, calligraphists, artists, and tattooist in mainland China are still using traditional Chinese in their artworks. A lot of the Chinese people are still naming their kids by traditional Chinese.

¡@¡@Traditional Chinese is a delicate writing system.  Each Chinese character is loaded with history, meaning, and pictures. During the 4000 years Chinese Calligraphy evolution, many sages, artists, monks, and rulers contribute to refine and beautify the writing system.  It makes traditional Chinese not only a tool for writing but also a form of art, a form of spirit, and a representative of Chinese culture.  Every tradition Chinese character is accountable for the rich Chinese history.  According to the Explore! Linguistics website of University of Oregon, sound, image, and meaning are the three foundations of creating traditional Chinese characters.  Although over the decades, Chinese characters have been alternated, the Traditional Chinese still reserves somewhat of the originality of the characters. Take the word turtle as an example, there are some resemblance between the word and the real living turtle.  During the 4000 year evolution, thousands of famous ancient Chinese artists had dedicated to beautify this word and derived thousands of style for this one single word.  That is why traditional Chinese characters are the most treasured Chinese arts.  That is  why Chinese Calligraphy Art can only be presented in the form of traditional Chinese.  Because, there was no famous Chinese calligraphist using simplified Chinese to create their art!

¡@¡@Those are the reasons you should get your Chinese name in traditional Chinese, and it is the reason ChineseInkonline choose to use all Traditional Chinese Calligraphy in our collection.
